VW Golf GTI and Golf R wheel fitment guide (Mk7, Mk7.5, Mk8)

The VW Golf GTI and Golf R (Mk7, Mk7.5 and Mk8) use a 5x112 stud pattern, and our customers run 18x8.5 +40, 19x8.5 +35 and 19x8.5 +40 on them. The SpeedWorks wheels with real Golf builds are the SW07, SW09, SW16 and SW02, and the SW22 and SW03 share the same stud pattern. All of them have a 73.1 mm centre bore, so a hub-centric ring is the right way to centre them on the Golf hub.

Golf stud pattern, centre bore and wheel bolts

  • Stud pattern (PCD): 5x112
  • Hub centre bore: 57.1 mm
  • SpeedWorks centre bore: 73.1 mm on every SW passenger wheel
  • Load rating: 690 kg per wheel, certified JWL, VIA and AS1638

The Golf uses wheel bolts rather than studs and nuts. Check that the bolts you use have the correct seat and thread length for an aftermarket wheel before fitting. If you are unsure, message us with your model and year.

SpeedWorks wheels available in 5x112

SW07: 18x8.5 +40

A flow-formed wheel in Gloss Black, fitted to both a Mk7 GTI and a Mk7 R. If you want to keep an 18 inch wheel with a little more tyre sidewall, this is the proven option. From $225 per wheel. View the SW07.

SW09: 19x8.5 +35

Flow-formed in Gloss Black. This is the most common Golf setup in our gallery, with builds on a Mk7, a Mk7.5 GTI and a Mk8 GTI. From $275 per wheel. View the SW09.

SW16: 19x8.5 +40

A flow-formed split 10-spoke in Hyper Black or Hyper Silver. Customers run it on both a Mk7 Golf R and a Mk8 Golf R. The +40 offset sits slightly further in than the +35 options. From $275 per wheel. View the SW16.

SW22: 19x8.5 +35

Flow-formed in Gloss Black and Machine Lip, 5x112. It is the same size and offset as the SW09 that customers run on Mk7, Mk7.5 and Mk8 Golfs, and a customer runs it on a Mercedes-AMG CLA35. We don't have a Golf build on the SW22 in the gallery yet, so treat it like any new fitment: the stud pattern matches, but offset, brake clearance and guard clearance must be checked on your car. From $275 per wheel. View the SW22.

SW03: 18x8 +38

Flow-formed in Matte Black, drilled 5x112. There is no Golf build on this wheel yet. The stud pattern matches, but offset, brake clearance and guards must be checked before you buy. From $225 per wheel. View the SW03.

SW02: 19x8.5 +35

Two Mk7 GTI owners run the SW02 in 19x8.5 +35. View the SW02.

18 inch or 19 inch on a Golf

Both work on the cars in our gallery. The 18x8.5 +40 SW07 has been fitted to a Mk7 GTI and a Mk7 R. The 19x8.5 options in +35 and +40 have been fitted across Mk7, Mk7.5 and Mk8 GTI and R models. Some Golf variants have larger front brakes than others, so if you have an upgraded brake package, confirm clearance with us before ordering an 18.

Moving from +40 to +35 pushes the wheel face 5 mm further out. On the builds above, both offsets work at 8.5 inches wide. If you want to compare against your current wheels, use our wheel offset calculator. Wider or lower-offset setups may need guard work or a lowered ride height depending on the car; ask us.

Hub-centric rings for the Golf

Our rings have a 73.1 mm outer diameter to match the wheel. The Golf hub is 57.1 mm, and that inner size is not in our current ring range. Choose the "Pick for me" option on the alloy hub-centric rings or plastic hub-centric rings, or message us and we will confirm the right ring for your car.

Ordering and delivery

Wheels are sold per wheel and shipped in sets of four, with free SpeedWorks centre caps. Delivery is typically 2-7 business days to metro areas and up to 14 or more to regional areas. Every order is tracked and insured. We are based in Kingswood (Penrith), Sydney, and pickup is available by arrangement. If you want something different, our forged wheels are made to order to your size and offset.

Frequently asked questions

What stud pattern is a Golf GTI or Golf R?

The Mk7, Mk7.5 and Mk8 Golf GTI and Golf R use 5x112. Every SpeedWorks wheel listed above is drilled 5x112.

What offset do I need for a Golf GTI?

Our customers run +35 and +40 at 8.5 inches wide, in both 18 and 19 inch. The SW09 19x8.5 +35 and SW07 18x8.5 +40 are both on GTI builds in our gallery.

Will 19 inch wheels fit a Golf R?

Yes, on the cars in our gallery. A Mk7 R and a Mk8 R both run the SW16 in 19x8.5 +40.

Do I need hub-centric rings on a Golf?

Yes, we recommend them. Our wheels have a 73.1 mm bore, which is larger than the Golf hub. Use the "Pick for me" ring option or message us to confirm the size.

Are SpeedWorks wheels certified?

Yes. All SW passenger wheels are certified to JWL, VIA and AS1638, with a 690 kg load rating per wheel and a 12 month warranty against defects in materials and finish. See our FAQ for more.
